Deponent was then detainedbut the whole of the
said Charge being laid beforethe Right Honourable
Henry Fox< no role > Esquire his Majesty's Secretary at War by the contrivance
of the sd. Bucknall one George Campbell< no role > a Chelsea pensioner a prosecutor
Also in this Cause and intimate with Bucknall the prosecutors the said
Rowe now or late a Hackney Clerk to one Adam Gordon< no role > of the Middle [..]
Temple and which said Gordon same time ago endeavoured to defraud
this Deponent of four hundred and Ninety pounds Ten Shilling for
one Hundred pounds but this Deponent perceiving the same and
not agreeing thereto the said Gordon in resentmt. with his Client the said
Bucknall to prevent Deponent Suing him on his Demands form'd and
Consulted the plan or Scheems for the former and present prosecucons
in Order to ruin and destroy this Deponent and his family as this
Deponent has undoubted reason to believe And this Deponent Saith that
the Secretary at War having upon their sd Applicacon and upon Inquiry
found their said Charge to be Malicious and groundless as this Dept.
believes refused to give any direccon for the [..]
upon the sd. Charge And this Deponent was thereupon Admitted to Bail
And this Deponent Saith that last September was twelve Months one John Hodgins< no role > who
made an Affidavitt last Session in this Cause and who was a
disbanded Soldier or Marine but now a Bailiffs follower as Depont.
is Informed and believes and who is Intimate with the said Bucknall
and Rowe as Depot: is informed came to this Deponent in the press yard where he then
was and now is a prisoner since July last with his Children in
great distress and Saith that the said Hodgins who this Deponent
never had seenbeforeto his knowledge then sent a Letter Signed
John Hodgins directed to this Depont. who was then in his Room
and desiring the favour of Admittance to Speak to this Dept. [..]
acquainting him by sd letterhimthat he had been with the said George Campbell< no role > and a Doctor of
Physick who wanted him to Swear something relating to a WIll of
one George Campbell< no role > and had promised him Money and to reward him
hand somely for Swearing and that if be cod. see this Depont. in
Person he wod. let him know all their Intrigue and what Mr. Fox
Secretary at War had told them the day before in his presence as by the
sd. Letter in this Deponents Custody ready to be produced And this Depont.
thereupon
