The Informations of Mary< no role > the Wife of Peter Gray< no role > of the Parish of Saint
Anne Westminster Victualler and Stephen Norman< no role > of the same Parish
Victualler taken upon their Several Oaths this 13th Day of May 1748

And first the said Mary Gray< no role > for herself saith That this Day one James
Symmonds
< no role > with another person whose Name is not known to this Deponent
came into her House and called for a pot of Beer and at the Same time
gave her a Sweet-Bread and Kidney to dress for their Dinners, which She look
from them in Order to dress, and gave her Servant Orders to draw the Quart
of Beer which She did, and while her said Servant went to draw another Pint
of Beer, and this Dywnent was dressing the said Victuals in her Kitchen, She the
said Dywnent (while her Servant was in the Cellar) went into her Tap Room
where She left the said Symmonds and other person but to her great
Surprise, found they were gone, and the pot of Beer not touch'd nor paid for,
and, upon examining her Room, mist four Brass Candle sticks, upon which She
went into the Street, and made Enquiry for the said Symmonds and the other
person whose Name is not known, and, by the Direction & Assistance of her
Neighbours and her said Servant, She secured the said Symmonds, and Sent
for Stephen Norman< no role > (one of the Constables of the said parish) to take Charge
of him the said Symmonds, And the said Stephen Norman< no role > saith, That upon
Securing the said Symmonds, he the said Symmonds said, That he imagined
that the said Candle sticks were Secreted in the Greyhound Alehouse (commonly called
the French: Change) in one of the front Drinking Rooms of the said House
(agreeable to the said Symmonds's Information) the said Candle sticks were found.
