The above named William Gray< no role > maketh Oath That the Commitment
against this Deponent being in General Terms for being armed with
Fire Arms and other offensive Weapons in order to be [..] and
assisting in the running of an customed Goods and not [..]
Fact this Deponent says that he was thereby unabled by [..]
Charge to be prepared to make his Defence to the particular Matters
whereof he now stands indicted And further says that he this Deponent
hath a great Number of Material Witnesses who reside at a very great
Distance from hence in the Countys of Kent and Sussex and some of
whom live as far off as Cranbrook in the County of Kent which is
Forty Six Miles from London and who are necessary to give their
Evidence for this Deponent upon the Trial of the said Indictment particularly John Longford< no role > Carrier at Cranbrook and peter Vincent< no role > ofbut
the same place Butcher
by Reason of such Distance this Deponent has not Time to send for
them this Session And says that without such their Evidence he
Cannot safely proceed to the Trial of then said Indictment and lastly
says he does not make use of this Means to put off his said Trial
to delay the Crown in their Proceedings but in order only to have
An Opportunity of making his Innocence appear And saith
that he Expects them her next Sessions.
