was Inclosed was put into the post office by one William Syms< no role > who
at that time was Book keeper to Mr. James Abbiss< no role > Merchant in the
City of London who is since gone into Jamaica as this Depont. has
been informed and verily beleives And this Depont. further
saith that in or about the Months of December or January last
past he did by direction of the post master Genl. or by the direction
of William Rouse< no role > Esqr. their then chief secretary writhe a Letter
to Mr. William Syms< no role > at Mr. Evans's Merchant in Jamaica
Thereby [..] desireing him to return into Enland by the next
ship in order to give Evidence against the said Defendt. for Stealing
the said Note and thereby offering an behalf of the said
Postmaster Genl. to make him a suitable recompence for his
Loss of time and trouble and this Depont. futher saith that
he this Depont. did deliver the said Letter to one Captain John
Bowers
< no role > Commander of the ship or Vessel called the prospect
then bound for Jamacia who promised to deliver the same
to said william lyms as soon as he arrived there and this
Depont. further saith that the said Captn. is now returned into
England and hath informed this Depont. that he did deliver the
said Letter to the said William Syms< no role > and did endeavour to
prevail upon the said William Syms< no role > to return with him into
England but that to the said William Syms< no role > refused so to do
Saying that as he was settled in Business in Jamacia it was
impossible for the postmaster Genl. to make him a sufficiant
Recompened for for the hazard trouble and Loss of time in so [..]
Passage or words to that Effect and this Depont. Christopher
Robinson
< no role > for himself saith that the said Defent was
Continued upon Bail from time to time in Expectation that
the said William Syms< no role > would return in England with the
said Captn. Bowers that the Defendt. might take his
Tryal time the last Sessions at the Old Bailey when as this
Depont. is informed he was discharged for want of
