The [..] Confession of Thomas Jenkin< no role > 's
Grave Digger of the Parish of Stepney
in the County of Middx taken before me
one of his Maties Justices for the said City
and Liberty on Friday the Ninth day of
April 1736 [..]

Who [..] deposeth and Sayeth that he has been Grave
Digger to the said Parish between Twelve and Thirteen years and that
last Night out of a grave in the said Church yard he look out of a Cotton
the Corps of Man which he carried to Palmall Court in Palmall in the
Parish of St. James Westmr. and that one John Brown< no role > (who is a Servant
to Mr. [..] Esar Hawkins< no role > a Surgeon in the said Palmall Court) hired him
to bring the said Corps to this Said Master's house, and told him he
should be Satisfied for his Trouble,which he accordingly did bring there and as
he was delivering the Said Corps at the said house, the Watchman
Thomas Adky< no role > apprehended the said Deponent and took him into
his Custody, and conveyed him to the Watch house, and look the
baskett in which the said Corps was conveyed to the said house
to which baskett there was a Strong cold and Knott And some woo'll
was found in the baskett belonging to a Shroud, and that the Coffin
in which the said corps was intened (being a deal Coffin) was by him
the said Jenkins covered ever with Earth, after he had taken the
Corps thereout which he broughe part of the way in a Coach
and then carried in his said baskett to the said Palmale Court
as aforesd. And that one Mrs Wood in Ocean Street at Stepney aforesd.
was with him at the Grace when he took out the said Corps
and that the said Mrs. Wood [..]
and one Sally Rawkinson< no role > and the wife of the said Deponent were with him this Deponent when he
broughe the Said Corps to the Said Mr. Hawkins house by
the direction of the Said John Brown< no role >
