Upon reading the humble Representacon & Peticon of Gilpin
Markwick
< no role > Keeper of New Prison in this County Exhibited
unto this Court settingforth that when the Petr. took
possession of the said Prison he found the same in a very
ruinous & decay'd condicon, Insomuch that the petr. is
afraid that some part of the said prison will quickly fall
downe, In which case the life of the Petr. or some of the
prisoners comitted to his charge may be in danger, And
that the Petr. with able & experienced wokmen have
very carefully inspected & view'd the said prison, and
that upon a moderate computacon it will cost to putt
the said prison & house in a tenantable & secure
condicon neare one hundred & fifty pounds, And
that the reduceing of the fees taken by the late Keeper of
the said prison, that comitting of severall to the house of
Correccon for want of sureties, & the great charge of
servants hath soe considerably diminished the profits of
the said prison that the Petr. is rendred incapable of
being at soe great an expence as the repaires will
amount to, And the Petr. therefore praying such releif
in the premisses as to this Court may seem meet, It is
Ordered by this Court that it be And It is hereby recomended
