St. Albans Augt 6th. 1717 .

Mr. Clarke!


I was to waite on you yesterday, being very much concern'd that you should make that
disturbance about the Vagrts that are brought to you from Mr. Godfrey, Seeing you have had
no less than 3. Justices of Middx that have given you their Words to see you paid the Charges you
are at; You have severall Oportunities of casing yorself: by the Comon Carriers & Carts & Wagons that
Every day pass through yor. Town both this Road & Hatfield Road, who will take them in for a small
matter, I will allow you 12d. towards yor. Charges for every such Carriage that shall bring them hither, & will
speak to the Constable of Northmimes to doe the like for such as you shall so convey through his Castable
Wick to Hatfield; & when you can't light of such a Convenience, if you will convey those that come
hither to Danl. Doggets of Shendley hill I will allow you 12d. an horse & 2s. a Cart for such as cannot
walk or come otherwise; & if you will take then quietly & ease Barnett Constables of the Reliefs that
they now give, I myself will reimburse you as I now doe them, So that you exceed not the Rates in
the Inclosed Order of Sessions, till such times as the Justices meet to settle the same, who am
