April 1796.

2d. It appeared to the Committee at their Second
Meeting on Tuesday the 4th. February 1796. upon
examination of the Task Master that the spinning
done by the Female Prisoners in the New House of
Correction is very insufficient and unproductive.

It was Ordered That the Governor do take upon
himself to direct the Labour of the Female Prisoners
employed in spinning and lay the result before the
Committee at their next Meeting

3d. At the third Meeting holden on Thursday the
11th. February 1796. The Governor reported to the Committee
that since their last Meeting he had directed nine
Female Prisoners to be employed in spinning and
stated that every Women had worked seven hours
a Day and had spun 2 lb of Yarn each Day that 2d.
being the usual Sum received for every pound of Yarn
when spun every Woman had carried Four pence Pr.
day every day that she had Worked since the last
Meeting of the Committee.

4th. At their Fourth Meeting on Thursday the
25th. February 1796. The Committee found it necessary
to come to this Resolution Vizt. To submit to the
Consideration of this Court the propriety of a recommen-
dation to the Magistrates to decline sending Persons
committed for Reexamination or before Trial to the
New House of Correction except on every special
Occasions such Persons being seldom employed and
generally conducting themselves (chiefly because they are
Sale) in a disorderly manner.

5th. At the fifth Meeting of the Committee holden
on Saturday 5th. March 1796. when the Duty of the
Chaplain and the Surgeon came under the consideration
of the Committee The Revd. Mr. Evans and Mr. Webb
