Rix.

By Adjournment same day.

Michael Shiers< no role > the Baker appointed to serve Prisoners
in New Prison and the House of Correction at Clerkenwell in this County
with Bread attended the Court and presented the following Petition Etc
To the Magistrates of the County of Middlesex .

Gentlemen

Your Petitioner hopes you will take into consideration
the difficultys the Bakers have labour'd under for this last Six Months
and I hope you will not take the Discount of my Bills for the Bread
delird. into the Prisons this last Quarter, it you look over the following
Account you will see that Flour has not been less then 70sh. and from
that to 84sh P Sack and now it is 73sh. P Sack. and oure Profits have not
been more than 1 P Sack upon an Average, and the Discount amounts to
5sh P Sack, then there is only 2s. P Sack profit to find Salt yeast and
Journeymens Wages , So Gentlemen if you give it one single thought you
will see it is impossible for me to allow the Discount to do Justice to the
Prisoners the County and myself. And I further hope you will be
so kind as to sign the two Bills as I may receive the remainder
of may Money, and you will oblige Yrs Etc.

Michael Shiers< no role >

And the same being read the Court proceeded to the consideration thereof
and having heard the said Michael Shiers in support of his said
Petition Resolved that 2½ P Cent be taken from the Allowance of 7½
P Cent and that in future the Discount to be Allowed by the Baker he
£5 P Cent only.

Mr Shiers being called in and acquainted with the above
determination of the Court say'd that he must decline serving the
Prisoners with Bread any longer as he could not afford to do it and
allow a discount of £5 P Cent.
