December 1786

George Ailmer< no role > Bricklayer deposed that the
Bridge after the Year 1759 was out of the Repair and that then the Gentlemen
of Twickenham & Isleworth Subscribed and it was Rebuilt - That the
Gentlemen that Subscribed received no benefit - That the Parish contributed
nothing at that time -That the Ford Runs in the same Channel now as it did
then

Thomas Wilson< no role > deposed that he had known the
place a great many Years - That once within three Years going through
in the Morning with his Horse he came back in the Evening and was near
being drowned and was in danger of losing his Horse.

Thomas Phillips< no role > a Fisherman deposed that the
Road was not passable at Spring Tides and that 6 foot of Water has been
seen there by him and 5 feet in general and that at this time it is 5 feet
high And the said Memorial being again Read and also the Case
of The King agt.Reported in Burrows, Reports Page
Respecting County Bridges and an Act of Parliament passed in the 13th.
Year of King Geo: the 3rd. by which it appeared that the Passage over the
River Thames where Richmond Bridge now Stands is an ancient Ferry
or Kings Highway It was Moved by Sr . Charles Gould< no role > and
Seconded by Dr. Glasse that the said Bridge be declared a County
Bridge And the Question being put thereon. It was Carried in
the Affirmative.

It was then Moved by Sir Charles Gould< no role > and
Seconded by Colonel Gordon That the Sum of £100 be given by this
Court towards the Expence of Building the said Bridge upon the
Memorialists undertaking that it shall be completed according to
the Terms offered to this Court by the Second proposition in the said
Memorial which was Resolved unanimously in the affirmative

By adjournment same day

The Report from the Committee appointed to examine into the
irregularities that happened at Highgate in the passing of Vagrants
having been read in the following Words Vizt.
