By adjournment 14th February 1782 at the
Guildhall Westminster

The Orders of Court made on Thursday the lenth day of February
Instant being read and also an advertisement published in pursuance of
the Orders of Court aforesaid giving Notice of the adjournment of the Court
here this day and the Petition of Mr Peter Stocken< no role > praying to be
appointed Collector of the Tolls of the St James's Haymarket and the
Petition of Mr William Holdsworth< no role > being read and also a Petition of
Mr John Woodward< no role > praying to be appointed Collector of the said Tolls
together with a testimonial to his character now presented being likewise
read and the following Letter from His Grace the Duke of Northumberland
Custos Rotulorum of the County of Middlesex and City and Liberty of
Westminster being also read. Vizt. To the Worshipfull William

Gentlemen

The Office of Collector of the Tolls on Hay & Shaw
in St James's Haymarket being Vacant by the Death of the late
Collector, I hope you will allow me to recommend to your favour the
bearer of this Letter Mr Peter Stocken< no role > whose fidelity prudence and good
conduct I have experienced for many years, and I am persuaded that
if he should be so fortunate as to meet with your approbation. He will
discharge any Trust you may be pleased to repose in him to your
intire Satisfaction
