Know all Men by these presents That James Elmore< no role > of the Parish
of Saint James Clerkenwell in the County of Middlesex Gentleman Charles
Martin
< no role > of Aylesbury Street in the same parish and County Victualler and John
Elkins of South street Grosvenor square in the County aforesaid Master Bricklayers
are held and firmly bound unto Sir John Hawkins< no role > Knight Sir Charles Whitworth< no role >
Knight Robert Pell< no role > and John Brettell< no role > Esquires Justices of our Lord the King
assigned to keep the peace in the County of Middlesex in manner following (that is to
say) the said James Elmore< no role > in Two Hundred Pounds of lawful Money of Great
Britain and the said Charles Martin< no role > and John Elkins< no role > in One hundred
pounds a piece to be paid to the sarah Sir John Hawkins< no role > . Sir Charles Whitworth< no role >
Robert Pell< no role > and John Brettell< no role > or to their certain Attorney Executors or
Administrators To the payment of which said Sum of Two hundred Pounds well
and truly to be made the said James Elmore< no role > doth bind himself his Heirs Executors
and Administrators firmly by these presents Sealed with his Seal and to the payment
of the said Sum of One hundred pounds a price each of them the said Charles.
Martin and John Elkins< no role > as to his own part and behalf only doth bind himself
his Heirs Executors and Administrators firmly by these presents Sealed
also with the respective Seals of them the said Charles Martin< no role > and John
Elkins Dated theday ofin the fourteenth Year of the
Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third King of Great Britain Etc and
in the Year of our Lord One Thousand seven hundred and Seventy four

Whereas the Justices of the peace for the County of Middlesex by virtue of Letters patent
granted by his late Majesty King James the first have Elected Nominated and appointed
the above bound James Elmore< no role > to be Keeper of the said prison called New Prison at Clerkenwell
in the said County To Have Hold Execute and Enjoy the said office place on Employment of
Keeper of the said prison called New prison and the dwelling House and Buildings thereto
belonging and the Garden and orchard there and other the appurtenances and all profits Commodites
and Emoluments thereunto due and right appertaining together with such fees only for
keeping detaining or releasing of any person or persons committed or to be committed
to his Custody as keeper of the said prison as are already legally ascertained limitted are
appointed or which shall be hereafter legally ascertained limitted or appointed by order of
the Justices of the peace for the said County in their General Quarter Session assembled or to be assembled
for so long time only as the Justices of the peace for the said County or the Major part of them
shall think fit and no longer Upon the Condition hereafter expressed Now the
Condition of this Obligation is such that if the said James Elmore< no role > do during the time
he shall continue keeper of the said prison keep his constant residence and Habitation
at the said prison and well and honestly demean himself in the said Office place or
Employment of Keeper and well and truly perform and Execute the same in his own
proper person and not by deputy and safely keep all such prisoners as shall from time to
time be committed to his Custody until they shall be discharged by due Course of Law
And also that if the said James Elmore< no role > do and shall Yearly during the time he shall be
and Continue Keeper of the said Prison keep his Constant Residence and Habitation at
the said prison and well and honestly demean himself in the said Office place or Employmt.
of Keeper and well and truly perform and Execute the same in his own proper person
and not by deputy and safely keep all such prisoners as shall from time to time be
