Whereas it appears by the report of the Committee appointed to
inquire into the receipt and disposal of the Toll of the Haymarket Etc
That articles of Agreement seem about the Year 1756 to have been
entered into by a Committee of the Justices with One John Wilkins< no role > a
Paviour his Executors Administrators and Assigns whereby £100..
Year is allowed him for the term of Twenty one Years in consideration
of his paving and repairing the Haymarket and by which it was
agreed that if a larger Sum should be annually Collected by the
said Toll than the aforesaid £100 and an allowance of 4s. in
the Pound for collecting the same then the said Wilkins was to
pay the Overplus at the End of his term to the Justices which term
will expire on Lady day 1777 and under those Articles of
Agreement the Haymarket has from that time been paved &
Repaired That said Wilkins is dead and that the said
Agreements are now executed by Mr. William Davis< no role > the
Executor of the said John Wilkins< no role > and that upon Examination
of Mr. William Davis< no role > he acknowledges a Ballance remaining
in his hands in favour of the County arising from the Overplus
of the Receipt of the Toll of the Haymarket of One hundred and
Fifty four pounds Sixteen Shillings and Six pence which
Sum he declared himself ready to pay to the Order of the
Justices Now therefore It is Ordered that
Mr. William Davis< no role > do forthwith pay the said ballance of
One hundred and Fifty four pounds Sixteen Shillings and
Six pence acknowledged by himself to remain in his hands as
aforesaid unto Mr. John Benson< no role > the Treasurer of this County
who is hereby impowered to receive the same on Account of the said
County and to give a receipt for the same unto the said Mr Wm.
Davis which together with this Order shall be a sufficient voucher
for the payment of the same
