About Election of Constabs.
in Islington Etc.

This Court being informed of Some irregular Preeding in the nomination &
Appointment of Petty Constables and Headboros in the Pish of St Mary Islington & or
Places within the Division of Finsbury in this County It is hereby recomended
referred to His Majesty's Justices of the Peace for this County residing within the
said Division or any two or three of them to examine into the manner of nomi-
nating electing & appointing of Petit Constables & Headboros. within the said
Parish & other Places in the said Division as they Shall think fit And to Pee
therein as the law requires and to make a report to the Sessions of what
they Shall find expedient to be done for the better regulation of Such
Election for the future

Order confirming the
Report concerning the
Election of Constables
in Islington .

Upon Reading and duly Considering the Report of His Majesty's
Justices of the Peace of this County acting within the Division
of Finsbury bearing Date the tenth Instant & Subscribed by
George Greene< no role > Charles Palmer< no role > John Spencer Colepeper< no role > and
Richard Holmes< no role > Esqr . being a Quorum of the Said Justices reciting
the Order of Court of the last Session Whereby it was referred
to them to examine into the manner of nominating & electing
of Petty Constables and Head borough within the Parish of Saint
Mary Islington and other Places in Finsbury Division aforesd.
and to make a Report of What they Should find expedient to be
done for the better regulation of Such Election for the future
And Setting forth that they the Said Justices had met together for that purpose
and examined into the Matters referred to them and did find by the
Information of Mr Palmer that of late Years Several Persons had
been Sworn into the Office of Constable as Deputys to others in
the Said Parish of St Mary Islington some of whom had been con-
tinued in that Office for four or five Years and were of mean Circumstances
and persons unfit for the Said Office And that the said Justices were
Opinion that for the future no Deputy should be sworn into the Offfice
of Constable in the said Parish unless he be presented by the High
Constable of the Division to two Justices of the said Division and
were also of opinion that no Victualler should be Sworn into the
Office of Constable if any other fit person can be found in the said
Parish many Instances of Partiality having been found by such
Victuallers It is Ordered by this Court that the said Report, being
well approved of, be and the same is hereby in all Things Confirmed
