Mr. Mainwaring's direction And the foundation of the Wall a [..]
joining to the Tap room being very bad and many of the bricks
mouldred and fell out and the mortar Perished the Comittee
gave Order that the same be repaired and new pointed at the
proper Season as high as wanted under Mr. Mainwaring's
direction. That the Committee gave directions for the Dust
and Rubbish in the Man's Ward to be taken away.
That the Committee went to New Prison and examined
into the State thereof where they found Several Matters
necessary to be done and gave directions for doing the Same
as follows. A Pump to the Woman's Ward, and to Pave the
rest of the Yard, to put up new Shutters to the Windows
that have no glass in them To put a new Roof and Weather
Board in the Shed in the Man's Yard and repair the Privy,
Turn the Lattice Gate to prevent the Prisoners getting our
the Wall A new Lock to the Gate and to mend the Pipe that
leads to the Water, Cock That the Committee did not find
any prisoner remaining in either of the Said Prisons detain'd
for Fees only That the Comittee. examined into the Matter,
of dispute between the present Keeper of Birdewell and the
late Keeper 's Executix about the Things in the Garden which
the valued at £8. and which the Comittee. thot. a Reasonable
price but the Said Prsent. Keeper did not then comply to any
terms about them however the Comittee since heard that
the difference between the said Parties is settled so do not
make any further report on that head. That the Comittee
had also enquired into the Matter of Wm Pentlow< no role > 's Petition
and are of opinion that he should be allowed a quarter of
a years salary for keeping the House of Correction during the time
expressed in his Petition and likewise that he Should be Allowed
and reimbursed the twenty Shillings by him paid to the Matron
for the proportion of time during which he was Suspended
and Jones took the Profits of New Prison and in case there Shall
appear to be any County Money remaining due to the Estate of
Jones the Comittee recomend it to this Court to order the said 20s
to be deducted therefrom and paid to the Petitioner That the
Committee had heard Wm. Sheldon< no role > the Assistant Cryer on his Petition
