Order concerning the trying
by a peigned action If the
Inhabitants of the Liberty of
the Tower of London are
lyable to pay the Assessmt.
for the passing & releiving
of Vagrants.}

Whereas a Rate was made by the Court of General Quarter
Sessions of the peace holden for the County of Middx in the
Month of July one thousand Seven hundred and thirty one
upon the Several parsshes hamlets & places lying within the
respective Hundreds and Divisions in the Said County
amounting in the whole to eight hundred pounds for the
raiseing of moneys to defray the expences of passing and
releiving of Vagrants, and whereas the Several Parishes
hamlets & places lying in the Tower Division within the
Hundred of Ossulston in the Said County were assessed by
the Said Rate Several Sums of money amounting together
to one hundred fifty five pounds two Shillings & two
pence as their Quota or proportion of the Said eight
hundred pounds, And whereas the four Several places
next here under named were assessed by the Said Rate as
part of the Said Tower Division the respective Sums of
money following (to witt)

The Liberty of the Tower within£0.. 2s.. 10d
The Liberty of the Tower without£1.. 1s.. 4d
The Liberty of the Old Artillery Ground £2.. 13s.. 11
the parish of Trinity Minories £1.. 14s..0d

amounting together to five pounds twelve Shillings &
one penny as their Quota or proportion of the Said One
hundred fifty five pounds tow Shillings & two pence
assessed upon the Said Tower Division as aforesaid Now
upon informacon given unto this Court that the
Inhabitants of the Said four places refuse to pay the Said
Several Sums of money assessed upon the Same, [..]
alledging that the Said places are within the Liberty
of the Tower of London (which Liberty is alsoe called
the Royalty of the Tower , and the Mannor of the Tower ,
and for which Liberty there is a distrinct & particular
Comission of the peace ) and that as Inhabitants
within the Said Liberty of the Tower they are exempted
and not by Law Subject to the payment of Such
Assesments, This Courtupon debate of the matter Is
of opinion that the matter in question is proper to be
tryed & determined in a feigned action in one of his
