Order touching the
inspecting & repairing of
the felou's Room in New
prison Etc.}

Upon reading the humble peticon of Joshua Walker< no role > Keeper of
Newprison at Clerkenwell in this County exhibited unto this Court
settingforth that the petr. had one William Moucreas< no role > committee
to the petrs. custody by Robert Dennett< no role > Esqr . one of his Maties Justices
of the peace for the County aforesaid for breaking the windows of
Elizabeth Shelton< no role > , pulling part of her house down, and threating
to sett fire to it, which said Moucreas was disordered in his Senses
sometimes to a great degree, and to prevent mischeif the petr.
caused him in the Night time to be put into the Felons Room,
but the Floor being out of repaire the said Moucreas tore it up,
and has broke it almost to peices, so that the petr. hath been
obliged almost over since the last Sessions to confine the Felons in
the same Room with those comitted for assaults which hath
created a great deal of Unscheif & disturbance, And that about a
year ago serve prisoners breaking out of the Felons Room, It
was Ordered by the Committee appointed to inspect the same
that the Floor should be then repaired as well as the other part
thro which they had made their escapes, but the Carpenter
neglecting to do it, hath been the occasion of its being so easily
broke up by the Said Moucreas, And the peticoner therefore
praying that this Court will be pleased to order the same to be
inspected and to grant the petr. such releif as to this Court shall
seem meet, It is Ordered by this Court that it be And It is hereby
recomended & referred unto simon Michell< no role > William Brooke< no role >
Robert Tothill< no role > william Hayton< no role > Thomas Robe< no role > and Andrew
Osbourne Esqrs . Justices of the peace for this County or any three or
more of them as a Committe to meet together and to take a
view of the Room called the Felows Room in New prison aforesaid,
and to take to their assistance [..] chable workmanor workmen as
they shall think fit, and to see if the Floor or any other & what
part or parts of the said Felons Room is out of repaire, and not of
Sufficient strength for the safe custody of prisoners, And if it Shall
appeare so to be, Then to cause the said Felons Room to be forthwith
effectually repaired and strong thened in the Floor or such part or
parts of the same as are weak or out of repaire at the charge of
this County soe as the escape of prisoners may be thereby hindred &
prevented, And to employ Such workman or workmen as they Shall
think proper to do the same, And to make their Report in writing
touching the premisses to the Court of General Quarter or General
sessions of the peace for this County.
