Constables to press them to do their Duty, so that he appears to
the Comittee to have been very Remiss & Negligent in ye. Examcon
of his Office as Treasurer, but whether be or the petty Constables
are chargeable or shall be charged with the Arrears uncollected
in those Years is left to the Consideration of the Court.

Mr. William Murden< no role > Succeeded him in 1722 as Treasurer & reced.
£6.10s.0d, arrears £6.18s.8d. as appears by the Pticulars in his accot.
annexed wch. arrears may & ought to be collected by him.
Your Comittee have also Consulted the Laws relating to these
Officers and their Accots. in order to lay before the Court the proper
method to oblige them more effectually to Collect & answer the
Rates to the County And we find that by the Statute of the 43
Eliz: C. 2. This Rate is to be made in Easter Sessions & every
parish to be Rated from an half penny to Six pence per Work
so as the rate dont exceed 2 pence per Parish one with another
That the Churchwardens are to be Collectors & have power to
distrain, or by Warrant from any Justice to Comittee, & are to pay
what they so collect Quarterly to their high Constables on paying
of 10s. each default, the high Constables to pay over to ye. Treasurer
Quarterly at every Quarter Sessions on pain of 20s. and the
Treasurers are to accept the Office accot. at Easter Session
and pay the Money in their hands as the Act directs on such
penalty (not less than £3.) as the Sessions shall think reasonable
And in Case of death the Exors & Admrs. of the Church Warden
high Constables & Treasurers are Subject to the like Penaltys
to be levyed by Distress & Sale and if on Consideracon of this
Statute, the Court shall be of Opinion that the Penalties on the
Treasurers extend only to the Money actually reced by them from
the high Constables, and not to such Sumes as thro' their default
are lost or not Collected, Yet the Comittee are of Opinion That
they are lyable to be Indicted for the neglect of their duty there
and that Mr. Holworthy may for his gross Negligence be soe
presented, if the Court shall think fit.

The next particular wch. fell under the Consideracon of the
Comittee was the House of Correccon at Clerkenwell & the
Rate made for Repairing thereof in 1717 wch. was ye. last Rate
made for that purpose, this rate not being made Annually
but as occasion requires & when raised is under the direccon
of one Treasurer, who is always chosen out of the Comission. The
Rate before menconed was for £800, whereof Thomas Burdus< no role > Esqr
was chosen Treasurer , and by his Accot. annexed It appears
there was only £393.6s.8d. Collected & paid to him, whereof
Disbursed by him £292.14s.3d under several Orders of Sessions
produced to the Comittee Together with proper Receipts verifying
