Order Concerning
Brandy Sellers Etc
quartering of Soldiers

Complaint being made unto this Court that divers persons
inhabiting in Severall parishes & places in this County
(who sell brandy or strong waters in their respective
shopps or houses by retail to all Persons comeing and
drinking such Liquors there and permitt tipling in such
their Shopps or houses) do refuse to receive such Officers
and Soldiers employed in his Majesty's Service as are
quartered and billeted upon them by the Constables or
Headboroughs of Such parishes or places or in case of
their default or absence by any Justice of the peace of
this County inhabiting in or near any such parish or
place upon pretence that they keep a Still or Stills in
such their Shopps or houses and distill such Liquors
therein and are therefore exempted from receiving such
Officers or Soldiers, And the said matter being debated
by this Court, This Court is of opinion that such Retailers
of Brandy and Strong Waters who Sell Brandy or
other distilled Liquors by retail and permitt tipling
in their Shopps or houses (notwithstanding they therein
keep a Still or Stills and distill such Brandy and
Strong Waters) are lyable to receive such Officer or
Officers, Soldier or Soldiers as are or shall be
Quartered or billeted upon them as aforesaid according
to the direction of the Statute in Such case made and
provided, And that in case of their refuseall So to doe
they ought to be proceeded against for the Same as
the Law in such case directs.

that we have viewed and inspected the Work house in the
said Order mentioned and the Buildings thereto belonging
