Reply of Justices of peace
of Middx to the Answer
of Ld. Mayst & Cotl of
Aldmen of London

The Reply of his Majesty's Justices of the peace for the
County of Middlesex to the Answer of the Lord
Mayor and Court of Aldermen of the City of London
to a Representation of the said Justices relating
to the incerting some of their names into the
Comission of Goal Delivery of Newgate.

The Justices of the peace of the County of Middlesex having
read a Copy of a paper purporting an Answer of the Lord Mayor
and Court of Aldermen of the City of London to a Representacon
of the said Justices at a General Quarter Sessions holden in
the Month of October last (being fifty and upwards)
relating to the Incerting into the Comission of Goal Delivery
of Newgate the names of Some of the Justices of the peace
of the said County Do humbly Crave leave to Reply to
the said Answer in the method therein taken

Which admits that the Comission of Goal Delivery is held aswell
for the County as the City and that generally the Humber of
Malefactors are more in the County than in London But says
that the Court is obliged to Discharge the Goal and have
thereby the more trouble and the City the more expence
The Justices cannot apprehend any argument from thence against
their desire, for that if some of them be added it will partly
lessen the trouble of Discharging the Goal, and not increase
the expence which is partly born by the Sheriffs of Middlesex
who have certain Fines of Malefactors there, besides the
profits of the Sheriff of the County, and the City hath had many
priviledges and Imunities Granted by the Crown which is presumed
may be in Recompence for the Charges of the said Goal Court
and expences and the City have all the profits thereof & offices
thereto belonging and the said Court is apprehended to be the
