September 1783.
Who being on Oath say and first the said Samuel Coates< no role >
says, that
on Tuesday Evening the 9th. Inst. he came to the Cross Keys Inn
in Wood
Street, and there Delivered a pair of Saddle Bags to the care of the Chambering
of the said Inn that he then went out to sup with a friend and on his Return
to go to bed, when he came into his Room, he ask'd the Chamberlain for
his Saddle Bag but they could not be found, that amongst other things which
the said Bags contained were four Shorts, five Handkerchiefs and two
pair of Stockings now produced And the said Thomas Lewis< no role >
says that he is Chamberlain at the Cross
Keys in Wood Street
That this Informant put the said Saddle Bags into a Room
in said Inn about 7 o' Clock last Night, and about 11 o' Clock
he missed them And the said James Allen< no role >
says that
about 11 o' Clock last Night he met two persons now
present who call themselves John Best< no role >
and John Tasker< no role >
in Kingsland Road
, whom he secured, and found one Bundle
now produced in the hands of Tasker, and the other now produced
in the pockets of Best.
