On Two Indictments for Forgery.
Moses Alexander< no role >
the above named Defendant maketh oath that Yesterday in the
Forenoon he was removed by Habeas Corpus from the Street where he had been a
Prisoner
for debt to convives two Indictments preferred and found the preceeding day
against him for Forgery. And this Deponent saith that at the time when the Values
Corpus was less at the Fleet
or at the time when he was brought into this W [..] or
until he was assigned on the said Indictments he did not know of had been informed
for what purpose he was removed from the Fleet
or what charge there had been against
him therefore this Deponent saith he is totally unproposed to make a defence to both are
either of the said Indictments. And this Deponent further saith that John Coventry< no role >
as
late Clerk
to this Deponent and a Material Witness for him on the trials of both the said
Indictments and without whose evidence this Deponent cannot with any degree of safety
to his life take his tryal is now and here been for some time as this Deponent hath
been informed and believes at Portsmouth
in the County of Hants so that until be
impossible for him to attend nd give evidence on this Deponents behalf this presents
Sessions.
