1759 on an Inquistion of View of the Body

St. Botolph Aldgate in the Ward of Portsoken .

and examined upon his Oath saith that on
Wednesday the first day of August instant about
half an Hour after nine in the Evening John
MatinMaland< no role > this Deponents Fallow Apprentice
upon a Dispute that happined between the said
Maland and the deceased touching a bad
Halfpenny whichMaland payed tothe deced
paid to sd. Maland with other Halfpence on
account of money received for the Sale of some
Flaps being a Perqisicute due to the Apprentices
the sd. Maland objected to the said Half penny
on which the diced promised to give him anor.
the next day he the deced not having then any other
that then the deced laid a Wagar of two pence
with sd. Maland that the sd. Halfpenny was a
Andgood onewhich sd. Malandand that It and
Thomas Wells< no role > a Naphe [..] of Dept. Mistness was
[..] to decide [..] thattheson sd. Wall's dcelaring
the Half penny to be bad one thes [..] Matard Jumped
about saying he had won the Wagers on which
Maland [..] the deced stmch Maland
upon his left Elbore with an Hand Brush on
which sd. Maland having a Knife in his
hand with which he was sir apting of a Block,
sayed, he would chop the deced down and sd.
Maland immediately threw the Knife which
was then in his have (being a large Brif Carving
Knife) at the deced the Point of which entered
the Body of the decednear the Gr [..] of thea
little above the left Groin; that the Knife instantly
fill to the Ground, and the diced cryed out that his Bowell is
ward out, that he then ran so the Bull head [..] Dept. following
him & there on un butte [..] ing his Was treat declared that his
Bowells went out; that the deced soon afterwards [..] turned
