Joseph Russell< no role > and Richard Frome< no role > two of the Jury for
trying the I am between one Sovereign Lord the King and
Elizabeth Canning< no role > This name instance is in set 35580. Spinster upon an Indictment for Perjury at the
present Sessions of Oyer and Terminer holden for the City of London at
Justice Hall in the Old Bailey in the Subarbs of the said City, lack speaking
for himself and not one for the other jointly and severally Make oath [..]
say that there Deponents and the agt of the Jurors sworn to try the said
Issue agreed in their Verdict find delivered to the Court and which
said Verdict was unanimously agreed to be Reduced into and was
accordingly Reduced into Writing, and was that the said Elizabeth
Canning was guilty of Perjury but not Wilful and Corrupt as these
Deponents or either of them did not apprehend or believe that she
the said Elizabeth Canning< no role > knew or believed the Facts by her
sworn in her Evidence against Mary Squires< no role > upon the Trial of
the said Mary Squires were not true when she so swo [..] the same
But these Deponents say they were induced to join in and agree to
the Verdict that is Recorded believing that the Words Wilfull and
Corrupt were mere matter of From and understanding it to be
the opinion of the Court that the said Jury could not being in their
Verdict in the manner they did at first and not from any
opinion or belief that the said Elizabeth Canning< no role > had any intent
to charge the said Mary Squires< no role > Falsely or Maliceusly and
deliberately to cause or procure the said Mary Squires< no role > to be
untruly convicted And these Deponents further say that they
are very uneasy in then minds and dissatisfied in then Conficence
by finding that the Verdict delivered by them and Recorded as
aforesaid is understood nd imports a Conviction of the said
Elizabeth Canning< no role > of deliberate Wilful and Intended Perjury
in Jurearing Facts which she knew to the False
