To the Rt. Honble Sir William Calvert< no role > Knt . Lord Mayor of the City
of London and to the Worshipfull the rest of his Maties Justices of the
Peace for the same City & the Libtys thereof in their General Quar. Sessions Assembled

The Humble Petition of John James< no role > the Son of John James< no role >
of the Parish of St. James Clerkenwell in the County of Middx Labourer

Sheweth


That on the 1st. day of February 1747 your Petr. by a foreign Indenture
was bound Apprentice to Peter Hulett< no role > of the Parish of St. Bartholomew the Great
London Picture frame maker for the Term of Seven Years, at which time your
Petitioner was under the Age of Fourteen Years.

That when your Petr. was bound to said Hulett the Sum of fifteen
Pounds was paid to him by the Executor of Daniel Taintwrier< no role > Esqr . deceased
being part of the Charity Money by him left to put out poor Children of the
Parish of St. James Clerkenwell Apprentices .

That your Petr. Served said Hulett for the Space of Twelve Months
but during that time said Hulett not only unmercifully beat Knock'd down
Kick'd and Stampt on your Petr. to the Danger of his Life but Suffered and
permitted a Woman who lived with him as his life frequently during that
time to beat and abuse your Petr. Kick him and break his Head, but kept
such a House as your Petr. might have perished for want of food had he
not been relieved by the Neighbours and his Parents nor find him Sufficient
Apparel nor had the said Hulett work in the said Business where by to
Employ your Petr. two Days in the Week so that it was Impossible for
the said Hulett to Instruct your Petr. in the said Trade so as to get his
Livelyhood thereby.

Your Petr. therefore most humbly Prays Your
Lordship and this Honourable Court to take his
Case into Consideration and that the may be Discharged
from his said apprenticeship and have such forth
and other Relief in the Premisses as to your Lord
and this Honourable Court Shall Seem Meet.

And your Petr. shall ever Pray etc.
