The Examination of Thomas Littleton< no role > of the Navy Office London Gent . taken the
2d. day of Septemr. In the Year of our Lord 1735. before John Montgomery< no role > Esqr .
Mayor and one of his Maties Justices of the Peace for the said City as
follows

This Examinant being charged on the Oath of Mr. Henry Johnson< no role > Chief Clerk for Navy
Bills and Navy Counts
to the Controuler of the Navy with [..] having feloniously stealing
several Bank notes being the Property of the said Henry Johnson< no role > , Saith that on Saturday
night last he lay with Philip Scudamore Monson< no role > , and on Sunday Morning following as
he this Examt. and the sd. Mr. Monson were walking in the Willow Walk near Mill Bank,
the sd. Mr. Monson persuaded him to search Mr. Johnson's Office to [..] if he could find any
Navy Bills or Money, That he dined with Monson and set drinking all the after Noon at
his Lodgings til about 7 o'Clock and then he and Monson went to Mrs. Lee a Servt. to the House
keeper of the Navy Office , and lighted a Candle and went into Mr. Johnson's Office and looked
about for the Key of one of the Draws, and not finding the Key this Examt. was willing to
return without breaking open the Draw, but Monson sd. Damn it, lets us breake, it
open, Upon wch. they both broke open the Draw with a knife, and this being a large
folio book he this Examt. opened the same, but did not find any notes, upon wch. he was
going to put the Book in to the Draw but Monson said pray let me see if I can find
any & upon Monson's Searching he found the following Bank Notes at one end of
ye. Book Vizt. One Bank Note No. 213 payable to Mr. Henry Johnson< no role > for £1000. Dated
7th. June last One other Bank Note No. 212. for £1000. payable to the sd. Henry Johnson< no role >
Datd. 17th of May 1734 One other Note No. 206 for £500. payable to Hen: Johnson< no role > Esqr.
dat. 9th. of Augt. last One other Note No. 40. for £20. payable to Hen: Johnson< no role > dat 20th.
of Augt. last One other Note No. 42. for £30 payable to the sd. Hen: Johnson< no role > dat. 20th of
Augt. last One other Note No. 35. for £30. payable to the sd. Hen: Johnson< no role > dat. 30th. of August
last One other Note No. 36. for £30. payable to the sd. Hen: Johnson< no role > dat. 30. of Augt. last
One other Note No. 212. for fifty pounds payable to Mr. Thos. Fellows< no role > dat 9th. of June
last One other Note No. 213. for £50. payable to ye. sd. Mr. Thos. Fellows dat 9th. of June
last [..] One other Note No. 33. for £20 payable to the sd. Henry Johnson< no role > Dat. 30th.
of Augt. last and One other £20. Bank Note and as soon as they had taken away the
Notes they imediatly went to a Tavern near Billingsgate where they changed the last
menconed Note but the Person with whom this Examt. changed the [..] set Note he knows not
And as soon as the sd. Note was Changed this Examt. gave Mr. Monson 11. Guineas out of ye.
Moneywithwch. Mr. Monson knew to be part of ye. Money wch. this Examt. receiv'd in
Exchange of the sd. Note Then they went from thence to the sign of Harry the Eighths Head
in the Borough of southwark where they lay all night and the next Morning they
bought Each of them a pair of Leather Breeches Boots Spurs & whips and took Post
Horses to Dartford and from thence to Rochester where they came to the Crown Tavern
by half an hour after 12. o'Clock at Noon where they dind and after Diaper this Examt.
changed the 2d. Note No. 33. with one Thos. Waklin Tapster at ye. Crown and then this Examt. and
Monson both [..] intended to go on Post to Dover in order for Calais but Mr. Monson
asking one of the servts. at ye. Crown whether they cod. not have a Packet to carry
