Rex on the Prosecution of Samuel Hooton< no role >
against William Strickland< no role > and another

David Geighton< no role > of Buckingham Street York Buildings
in the Parish of Saint Martins in the Fields in the County of
Middlesex Baker Maketh Oath and saith that being chosen
Constable for the Parish of Saint Martins in the Fields at
Michaelmas one thousand seven hundred and eighty eight
and in Consequence thereof attended with diligence to the
Duties thereof to the best of this Deponents power knowledge
and Ability and soon after his being engaged in the Business of
Constable and attending at the Watch House in his regular turn
as Constable of the Night and during this Deponents being
there several persons were brought before him amongst
whom were the prosecutor and the Defendants and it being
concerning a Watch that the prosecutor [..] charged was
picked out of his pocket by Defendants or one of them and the
Watch was given to this Deponent who kept the Defendants [..]
Custody until the next Morning when this Deponent took
them to Justice Hyde's who or hearing the Evidence committed
them for Trial and this Deponent and the Witnesses were bound
over to prosecute And this Deponent further saith he never had
any Intelligence or Notice whatever either from the prosecutor
or any other person when the Trial was to come on and being
intirely ignorant and unacquainted with The Nature of this
Business he did not know or could form any Idea when it was
proper he should attend relying upon some Notice being given
him And this Deponent further saith to his great Surprise one
of Justice Hyde's Men came to this Deponents House after the
Trial was over on the tenth Day of December one thousand
seven hundred and eighty eight and on seeing Deponent he
told him he was in danger for not attending the Trial and
advised Deponent to apply to the Court on which this
Deponent went immediately to the Old Bailey and represented
the Circumstances to the Court just as it was breaking up and
the Judge then Sitting told this Deponent he must deliver up
the Watch to the prosecutor on which he returned Home
