26th. June 1788

Examination of Witnesses taken at the Sign
of the King and Queen in the Parish of
Saint Matthew Bethnall Green in the County
of Middlesex on View of the Body of a New
Born Male Infant by Edward Walter< no role > one
of his Majesty's Coroners for the said County

Edmund Goddard< no role > of the Parish of Saint Mary White
Chaple Victualler being Sworn and Examined upon such
his Examination said That as he the Examinant was
Passing through a certain Field called Scotts Field in the
Parish and County afsd. on Monday the 23d instant
having with him a Dog Accustomed to go into the Water
he threw some what into such Pend for the Dog to fetch
And to his Great Surprize he Dog brought out from
the Pond a Coarse Cloth and upon Examinant
opening Same He found it contained the Body if
a New Born Male Child with the after Burther
Etc as it came from the Mother But how or by whom
such Child was placed there the Examinant knew
not.
