Who being on Oath says that on Thursday the 18th.
Instant He was overtaken by the Person now present who calls
himself John Castledine< no role >
in Piccadilly
that whilst walking
together the said John Castledine< no role >
Stopped down and in his
Hand this Informant saw a Silk Purse that the said John
Castle< no role >
dine told this Informant there was something of Value
and that there was a Bill in it and told this Informant
not to say anything and they would go to a Publick House
and Examine it that they went to a Publick Room the
said John Castledine< no role >
took this Informant to the Door
that after drinking the Pint of Beer they both went into
now present who calls himself Joseph Hodges< no role >
that the said
John Castledine< no role >
took a Box out of the said Purse and a Bill with it
and showed them to the said Joseph Hodges< no role >
that they all
agreed to go together to a Publick House Tothill Street the
Westminster
Arms that they went all three into a Private Room
that the said John Castletine< no role >
expressed a Concern how this
Informant should get his Share of the Ring that this In-
-formant wanted to advertise it that the said John Castledine< no role >
said
it was the first thing of Value he ever found therefore He would make
a present of it to a Friend of his who would return ten times
the Value to Him. He then pulled out some papers amongst which was
a Note for One Pound Fifteen Shillings which [..] the pair of Casteldine said He would
take to a Gentleman and ask him to pay and give the Money
to this Informant for his part upon which the said Joseph Hodges< no role >
said that the other two were both Strongers and it Castledine went
to get the Bill paid he might go off with the ring that the said Joseph
Hodges< no role >
asked this Informant what Money He had about time who
an Served He had Two half Guineas a Ten shillings and a Silver
Watch that the said Joseph Hodges< no role >
told this Informant to give the
Watch and Two Half Guineas to the said John Castledine< no role >
and to take the
Ring, that this Informant did give his Watch and Two half Guineas
to the said John Castledine< no role >
in order to bind himself to wait at the
said House till Four oClock in the Afternoon and took the Ring from
the said John Castledine< no role >
that the said John Castledine< no role >
then went
out of the Room pretending he was going to receive the Money for
Some of his Bills that the said Joseph Hodges< no role >
staid in the Room
