James Mendum< no role > of Duke Street Saint Jame's Coachman
to John Pratt< no role > Gentleman Maketh Oath and Saith that on or
about the Twenty Eighth day of July last he was bound by a
Recognizance in the penal Sum of Forty pounds upon Condition
that he did Prosecute and give Evidence against Luke Williams
at the Next Session to be held for the said County for Feloniously
taking and carrying away One Livery Cloth Box Coat the
property of the said Mr. Pratt And this Deponent Saith that
he did Attend at Hicks Hall in Saint John Street in the said
County of Middlesex on Monday the Sixth day of September
being the first day of the Session there and did prefer a Bill
of Indictment and give Evidence thereon before the Grand Inquest
who returned the same as this Deponent believes a true Bill
And this Deponent did Attend the next day being Tuesday when
he was told that he should Attend at the Sessions in the Old
Bailey And this Deponent Saith that he did Attend at the Sessions
House in the Old Bailey the next day being Wednesday the first
day of the Session and Likewise all the next day Thursday And
this Deponent Saith that having been informed if the Prisoners
Name was not on the List he had no occasion to Attend as he
would not be then Tried which Information this Deponent did at
that time believe to be true And this Deponent Saith that on his
going to the Sessions House on the Friday Morning to Attend as
before he looked at the List and saw that the prisoners Name was
not there therefore this Deponent concluded he had no occasion to day
and accordingly went home And this Deponent did attend the
next Morning being Saturday and on looking upon the did saw
the prisoners Name was not there therefore this Deponent went
Home And this Deponent did Attend in like manner on the Monday
Morning following when the prisoners Name was not upon the
List therefore this Deponent did then go and make Inquires at
Newgate about the said prisoner where he was informed that
the said Prisoner had been Discharged on the Saturday Night
