without whose Testimony they Cannot Safely proceed to
Tryall and that they have made and Caused to made
before the last Session & to this Present Time diligent Search
and Enquiry after the said Sworn Evans at her last place of
Abide and at all other likely places where they thought
she might be met with to have her as a Witness for
them here but which standing their Utmost Endeavours
have not been able to meet with her or get her served
with a Subpena And are Credidly Informed and verily
Believe' the said Susan is kept out of the way by the
Said Earl his Means or Procurement And this
Deponent Benjamin Evans< no role > for himself Saith That he
isSisterBrother to the said Susan And that the said Earl before the
last Session personally Applyed to this Deponent And Sayd that
if his Sister( meaning the said Susan) would keep out of
the way and not appear as a Witness for the said Defendants
on their Tryall (meaning the before men lioned Tryalls) he would be a Friend
to her as long as she lived To which this Deponent
replyed how is she to keep out of the Way she has no
Money His Lordship then Sayd he would give his Man
Jerry Orders to Supply her with Money And Saith that
on the Next Day his Lordship Applyed to this Deponent
again for the like Purpose And Saith that in the Evening
of the saidDaylast mentioned Day the said Jerry his
Lordship Servant gave the said Susan two Guineas to keep
out of the Way but Insisted on this Deponent giving his
