The Examination of John William< no role > Lee the Prisoner at
the Bar taken before us Thomas Bishop< no role > & George Mercer< no role >
Esqrs . Two of his Majesty's Justices of the peace in for the said County

This Examination Saith that on the Twenty Eighth Day of
September instant 1772. He went to the shop of one Mr. Joulings a
Gold Smith in Duke's Court St Martin's Lane to purchase a pair of Silver
Candle Sticks, Silver Snuffer pan, and Silver Snuffers and agreed for the price
of the same And ordered Mr. Toulings to bring the said things to this
Examinants House in Buckingham Street Mr. Toulings did so when
this Examinant tendered a Droft in payment to the said Mr. Toulings in
the words and figures following Vizt.

And which said Draft is indorsed by John William Leo< no role > in his this
Examinants own proper Hand writing. And this Examinant saith that
the said Mr. Touling looked at the said Draft and asked this Examinant
whether the said Draft was a good Draft? This Examinant told him
that it was a good one; Mr. Touling said that he hoped it was a good
one upon honour, because his profit upon the things was not more than
half a Guinea, and this Examinant desired the said Mr. Touling to Enquire
if the said Draft was a good one and if it proved a good one, then their
agreement to be binding. Mr Touling went away for that purpose bearing
the things upon the Table in Mr Leo's House, and returned in about Ten
minutes to this Examinants House again. And Mr. Touling then told this
Examinant that he would have his things again not choosing to have any
concern with a Draft that had so long to ran, whereupon this Examinant
immediately made answer to Mr. Toulings that he coud not deliver back
the things to him again because he had sent them off, And that this
Examinant did ask the said Mr Toulings why he did not immediately object
to the Draft at the time it was tendered to him in payment for the Goods,
otherwise this Examinant wou'd not have bargained with him for the Goods
