The Information of Alexander Jesson< no role >
taken before me this 16th. day of January
1772

Who being upon Oath says that he Knows James Bolland< no role >
late of Shire Lane near Temple Bar , that one Day in October last between
the 12th. & 22nd. of that Month this Informant having some Business with one
Mr. Labourer a Distiller or Brandy Merchant went to the George & Valture Tavern
in Corhhill where he found the said Mr. Laburnand James Bolland< no role > , that this
Informant desired that said James Bollard to take up a Bill of Exchange
which this Informant had discounted, that the said James Bolland< no role > said he
was short of Cash and Produced a Promissory Note now Produced of T. Bradshaw
for one hundred pounds payable to Mr. Sam Pritchard or Order two Months after
Date and Dated London 12 Oct 1771. that the said Promissory Note was then
indorsed with the Names of St. Pritchard and James Bolland< no role > , that this
Informant refused to get the said Note discounted with the Name of James
Bolland
< no role > [..] indorsed upon it saying he would not have his Name
on the Same Paper with the said James Bolland< no role > , that the said James Bolland< no role >
said he would take off his Indorsement from the said Note, that the said Mr.
Laburn then begun to scratch out the Name of the said James Bolland< no role > with
a Knife, that the said James Bolland< no role > desired the said Mr. Labour not
to Scratch out his Christian Name nor B the Initial Letter of his Surname
saying he could put on some other Name that begun with a B, that the
said James Bolland< no role > did then add the Letters ''anks'' to the said Letter B
making the Name indorsed on the said Note ''James Banks< no role > '', says this
Informant told the said James Bolland< no role > he should perhaps get a particular
friend to discount the said Note who night probably be inquisitive who
were the Indorsers upon which the said James Bolland< no role > said James
Banks
< no role > lived in or near Rathbone Place and was a Publican, says
he this Informant delivered the said Promissory Note to Francis
Lewis
< no role > Cardinaux now present and that a few days afterwards on a
Saturday Evening the said Francis Lewis< no role > Cardinaux this Informant
one Mr. Hadford andthis Informantthe said James Bolland< no role > met at the Rainbow Coffee
house in King Street Covent Garden where the said Francis
