before me this 12th. day of October 1770

Who being upon Oath says that he knows one John Joseph Defoe< no role > otherwise
[..] Smith one John Clark< no role > , one Jones otherwise Ives, says that a few
days ago he bought a Silver horizontal Watch Maker Ellicott of the said
John Joseph Defoe< no role > at a Publick house near Marybone and that the Said John
Clark
< no role > was in another Room in the same house at the Time, and that
the Said John Clark< no role > was in Company with them both before and after
the buying of the Watch, says that a Month or six Weeks ago he
bought a Gold repeating Watch of the Said John Clark< no role > at the
Lodgings of the Said Clark in Wells Street, says that Mary Kirby< no role > was in
an adjoining Room in the Same house at the Time, says that he has sold
the Said Gold Repeater to Mr. Plumley of Ludgate hill a Goldsmith for £18,
says that Some time before the last mentioned Bargain he bought a Gold
Watch of the Said John Joseph Defoe< no role > , John Clark< no role > , Jones otherwise Ives at
the Brown Bear in the Strand , says that James Stamford< no role > was also present,
says he has sold the Said Gold Watch to Mr. Stogdale of Maiden Lane,
says that some time before the last mentioned Affair he bought a Metal Watch
of the Said Defoe at the Wrekin in Broad Court says that the Said John Clark< no role >
Jones otherwise Ives, the Said James Stamford< no role > and a Girl when this Informant
believes to be Jones's Sister were all present, says he has pledged the said
Watch with Mr. Noon of Butcher Row, says some time ago he bought a
Silver hilted Sword of the Said John Clark< no role > at his Lodgings in Wells Strid
which is in Pledge in Princes Street at Murthwaite's says some time ago
he bought a small Gold Watch of the Said John Clark< no role > at his Lodgings in
Wyche Street which he pledged in Wych Street & sold the Duplicate to Mr [..]
Stogdale, says that one Richard Rook< no role > introduced this Informant to the
Said Clark & as he believes had part of the Money for which the Watch
Was pledged, says he had a Silver Watch of the Said Clark at the Same time
which he pledged at Tucker's in Drury Lane and has since sold the
Duplicate to a Stranger,
