The Information of John Settles taken before
me this 17th. day of August 1770

Who being upon Oath says that on Friday Morning the 3rd. of August Instant
he came to his Uncle's house at Lambeth from Guilford & staid there till the
Saturday afternoon when he went to the King's Arms in Maynard Street St.
Giles's to see one Benjamin Murphy< no role > , that he found the said Benjamin Murphy< no role >
there together with Matthew Matthewson< no role > and John Murray< no role > about 5 of 6 o'
Clock, that they all staid there together until about 12 o'Clock at Night and
that Mr. Mc. Cave the Landlord & his Wife and one Ann Dailey< no role > and Catherine
Guestry and others saw them together there, that Catherine Graham< no role > came
into the house to them several times and peas seen by the said Mc. Cave &
his Wife and also by one John Cooledge, that the said Matthew Matthewson< no role >
went into the Back Yard belonging to the King's Arms aforesaid and brought
with him into the house a ripping Chizel and another Chizel the said
John Murray< no role > Matthew Matthewson< no role > Benjamin Murphy< no role > and this Informant
having agreed to go out together a house breaking that about 12 or 1 o'Clock
the said Matthew Matthewson< no role > John Murray< no role > Benjamin Murphy< no role > and this Infor.
went out together accordingly from the Kings Arms aforesaid and went
into Bloomsbury Square where the said Matthew Matthewson< no role > got over some
[..] Rails into an Area with Intent to break open that house but finding
Iron Bars at the Window they did not do it, that soon afterwards finding
a Man asleep in Bloomsbury Square the said Benjamin Murphy< no role > and
this Informant stole a pair of Silver Buckles out of his Shoes which
they sold the next Morning to Catherine Graham< no role > having before offered the
to Sale at the King's Arms aforesaid were they were seen by the said
Mr. Cave & Several Irishmen who were drinking there, that soon after stealing
the said Buckles the said Benjamin murphy< no role > and this Informant over took
the said John Murphy< no role > & Matthew Matthewson< no role > when they all four went
together into Russel Street & broke open a house, that the said Benjamin
Murphy
< no role > and this Informant went over the Rails into the Area and the said
John Murray< no role > and Matthew Matthewson< no role > stood at the Door to watch and give an
Alarm if necessary that the said Benjamin Murphy< no role > broke open the Window
Shutters with the said Chizels & then went into the house of this Informant
with him that they searched about the Kitchen and found a Silver Pass Spoon
