On Several Indictments for Forgery

The Defendant William Thornhill< no role > maketh Oath that one George
Brown
< no role > a Half pay Lieutenant is a Material and necessary Witness
on the Behalf of this Defendant on the several Indictments found
against this Defendant and without the Benefit of whose Testimony
this Defendant cannot safely proceed to the Tryal of the said Indictments
or either of them And This Deponent saith that previous to the last
Sessions he was informed and which he verily believes to be true
that the said George Brown< no role > then was and for some Time then last past
had been in or near the County of Cornwall but in what particular
Part this Deponent had not then been able to discover although he
had caused several Inquiries to be made at the Places where it
was most likely to hear and be informed of the said George Brown< no role >
for which Reasons an Order was made at the last Sessions to put off
this Deponents Tryal till the present Sessions in Order to give
this Deponent an Oportunity of finding out his said Witness
And this Deponent saith that ever since the last Sessions he
hath continued to make and caused to be made Inquiries after
the said George Brown< no role > of the several Persons and at all the Places being Many in Number
from whom and where it was most likely to hear and be informed
of the said George Brown< no role > And this Deponent saith that he hath
caused the said George Brown< no role > to be advertized for twice in the
London and Saint James's Chronicles and White hall Evening Post
and thrice in the Daily Advertizer but hath not yet been able to find
out where the said George Brown< no role > is, And therefore this Deponent
now thinks that the said George Brown< no role > is gone to Ireland he being
an Irishman and having Friends in that County and this Deponent
hath lately been informed and verily believes that there is but One
