The Information of Mary Davis< no role >
Servt . to The Rt. Honble The Countless
Dowager of Effingham

Who being upon Oath says that She lives in the house with sd.
Lady Effingham in George Street Hanover Square that the Ground
Floor of sd. House consists of, one Hall, two Parlours, one [..] behind the
[..] the other, that out of the back Parlour is a Closet and a
Dressing Room, that in the said Dressing Room which is on the
right hand of the back Parlour and has a door opening into the
said Parlour Thomas Holland< no role > her Ladyship's late Butler
lays that [..] on the left hand of said back Parlour
was a Closet which opened into the sd. Parlour, that in said Closet
was a Bureau with a Book Case upon it which stood up against
the Wainscot, says that on the 18th.. of May last at about half an
hour after one in the Morning She went into the said Closet with a
Candle in her hand and put her Lady ship's Pincushion into a
little Drawer in the front of said Bureau, says that at this time
the Bureau was not broke open or angrivd defaced, that when She
left said Closet every thing appeared to her to be safe and quiet, says that She
then went down stairs to examine the back door which finding safe
She then went to Bed, says that about 3 the same Morning She was awaked
by the Ringing of the Bell, says that She got out of Bed opened her Room
door asked what was the matter when said Thomas Holland< no role > from
below answd. that there was Fire in the house that She asked when
and that he told her in the back Parlour, says that She soon after
came down Stairs, that the said Fire by the timely assistance of the
Firemen and other lied it was extinguished, and had not
penitrated farther than through the floor of the Closet adjoining to
her Lady ship's Bed Room though it burnt the Wainscot of the Closet
below, says that She soon after saw the sd. Bureau, that the front part of
said Bureau was entirely perfect excepting the Lid of it which appeared
to be cut with a knife in order to open it, says that the back part of
said Bureau was consumed, says She was present the same day
when two half Crowns, one of them a fresh one and a Sailor
Great was found on the Person of said Holland
