AN INQUISITION indented, taken for our Sovereign LORD the KING, at the House of
James Ferguson< no role > the Sign of the Duke of Cumberland in Upper
Bryanstone street in the Parish of Saint Mary le bone in the County of
Middlesex , the Twenty second Day of November in the Fortieth Year of the
Reign of our Sovereign LORD GEORGE the Third , by the Grace of GOD of Great-Britain, France
and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth, before George Hodgson< no role > Gent
one of the CORONERS of our said LORD the KING, for the said County, on View of the Body of
Elizabeth Underwood< no role > then and there lying dead, upon the Oath of
the several Persons whose Names are hereunder-written and Seals affixed, good and lawful
Men of the said County, duly chosen, and who being then and there duly sworn and
charged to inquire, for our said LORD the KING, when, how, and by what Means, the said
Elizabeth Underwood< no role > came to his
Death, do, upon their Oath, say, That the said Elizabeth Underwood< no role > not being
of sound Mind Memory and Understanding but lunatic and distracted
on the twenty first Day of November in the Year aforesaid at the Parish
and in the County aforesaid one End of a certain small Cord to [..]
then and there being and the other End thereof about her own Neck
did fix tie and faster and therewith did then and there hang
suffocate and Strangle herself of which hanging Suffocation and
strangling she then and there died And so the Jurors
aforesaid do say that the said Elizabeth Underwood< no role > not being
of sound Mind as aforesaid in Manner and by the Means
aforesaid did kill herself
IN WITNESS whereof, as well the said CORONER asthe said Thomas Reynold< no role >
the Foreman of the said Jurors, and the Rest of his said Fellows, have, to this Inquisition set
their Hands and Seals, the Day, Year, and Place first above-written.
