Informations of Witnesses taken at the Dwelling house
ofthe Sign of the Kings head
in the Parish of Shepperton in the County of
Middlesex on Wednesday the Seventh day of June 1786
Before Edward Umfreville< no role > Esquire one of his Majesty's
Coroners for the said County touching the Death of
John King< no role > then and there lying dead as follow

Thomas Barnett< no role > of Shepperton Merryman upon
his Oath Saith That on Sunday last. several
Boys (among whom was the deceased a had about
14 Years of Age.) striped and went into the river
to bathe about 3 in the Afternoon and shortly
Afterwards some of the Boys hollowed out
the deceased would be drowned Whereupon
are John Purdue< no role > whereas on due Side of the
River striped and went in to save the deceased
who sun he under the Water and Deponent
immediately pushed off his Boat to assist in
serving the deceased if possible and in about
half an hour the deceased. was taken out of the
Water by his Father and every method was
immediately made use of to recover him
without Effort as deceased was quite dead.
