Informations of Witnesses taken at the Dwelling House
of Isaac Venus< no role > the Sign of The Dover Castle .
in the Parish of Saint Mary le bone in the County of
Middlesex on Thursday the thirtiethday of March
1786. Before Edward Umfreville< no role > Esquire one of his Majestys Coroners
for the said County touching the Death of Edward Oakey< no role >
then and there lying dead as follows

Ralph Church< no role > Coachman to the Rt. Honble Earl.
Gower in Dutchess Street portland place lycon his Oath.
Saith That about ten o'Clock Yesterday. Morning as he
the deceased (who was Coachman To this Deponents Lady
the Countess of Sutherland) and one Robert Dawtries< no role >
Groom to his Lordship were in an Apartment over
his Lordships Stables inWeymouth MewsNew Cavenorisle Street where
this Deponent and the said Robert Dawkins< no role > Lodged.
Dawkins asked Oakey if he would loss up with him
for a pint of Beer Oakey said he would and then
Dawkins in play struck Oakey with his open hand.
and Oakey struck him again in the same sort of way
except that he doubled his Fist. Dawkins then struck
Oakey again with his doubled Fist and the deceased
fell down upon the Floor on his backside Deponent
did not observe on what part of deceaseds Body Dawkins< no role >
struck him but immediately as the deceased fell he seemed
to grasp his hands as if in a convulsion fit upon
which Deponent said Lord have Mercy on us let us
get some adviceupon whichand immediately they
lefted up the deceased and laid him upon a Bed.
the room but he seamed almost dead. and Deponent
and Dawkins immediately went for Mr. William
spence a Surgeon who Returned with them and bled
