An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at the parish
of Saint George the Martyr within the Borough of Southwark in the County of Surrey
on the twenty fourth day of May in the thirtyninth year of the reign of our Sovereign
Lord George the third King of Great Britain and so forth before Thomas Shelton< no role > Gentleman
Coroner of our said Lord the King for the City of London and Borough of Southwark
on view of the body of Thomas Rushwouth< no role > now here lying dead by the oath of
Samuel Hawgood< no role > , James Edwards< no role > , Thomas Buck< no role > ,George Morgan< no role > , John Hill< no role > ,
William Tucker< no role > , Anthony Seran< no role > , Thomas Welchman Winne, Thomas Hall< no role >
David Bramer< no role > , Bennet Kitson, Richard Lee< no role > , Joseph Cook< no role > , Richard Hugginson< no role > ,
and Thomas Bennett< no role > , good and lawful men of the Borough and County aforesaid who
being now here duly chosen sworn and charged to inquire for our said Lord the
King when how and in what manner the said Thomas Rushworth< no role > came to his
death say upon their oath that a certain person whose name to the Jurors aforesaid
is unknown on the twenty second day of May in the year aforesaid being passing
along a certain publick highway there situate called Amelia row and having a
certain chest of Drawers on his back and the said Thomas Rusworth being
then and there following the said person whose name to the said Jurors is unknown
with a certain Pembroke table on his head and a certain line being fastened
across the said Street It so happened that the said chest of drawers accidentally
casually and by misfortune struck against the said line and the said chest of drawers
was thereby then and there accidentally casually and by misfortune thrown from
the back of the said person whose name to the Jurors aforesaid is unknown
unto and upon the said table which the said Thomas Rushworth< no role > was then and
there so carrying as aforesaid by means whereof the said Thomas Rushworth< no role >
did then and there receive divers mortal bruises in and upon his head of which
said mortal bruises he the said Thomas Rushworth< no role > did then and there instantly
die. And is the Jurors aforesaid upon their oath aforesaid do say that the said
Thomas Rushworth< no role > in manner and by the means aforesaid accidentally casually
and by misfortune came to his death and not otherwise. In Witness whereof
as well the said Coroner as the said Samuel Hawgood< no role > the foreman of the said
Jurors on behalf of himself and the rest of his fellows in their presence have to
this Inquisition set their hands and seals the day year and place frist
abovewritten.
