London Depositions of Witnesses taken at London
that is to say at the parish of Saint Mildred
Poultry in the ward of Cheap in London
aforesaid this 15th. day of September 1798
on view of the body of a Man unknown
now her lying Dead.

Reuben Balden< no role > one of the Turnkeys of the Poultry Compter
maketh Oath that between nine and ten oClock on Thursday
Night last the deced was brought to the said Prison charged as
a Vagrant-that he appeared insensible could not speak and Dept.
believes hewasvery much intoxicated [..]
that his Cloaths were very ragged and Dirty-Dept. took him
into a Room of the Prison called the strong Room laid him
on the Floor and covered him with some Rugs and then
left him and locked him in-That about eleven oClock Dept
went to the deced to see if he was covered-that he was covered
and left him and locked the Door. Dept says when the first he received
the deced that his Breath smelled very strong of Rum

Samuel Lee< no role > one of the Turnkeys of the Poultry Compter maketh
Oath and saith that he was with the last witness when the deced
was brought to the Prison and assisted in taking him to the
strong Room at abovementioned-Dept. says that a little after
eight yesterday Morning Dept. unlocked the Door of the Room
he [..] and the last witness had left the deced in as
abovementioned. that on going in he found the deced lying
in the same situation Dept. and the last witness had left him in
on the Thursday Night-That he was dead and quite cold

John Jacob< no role > of No. 6 St. Dunstans Alley St. Dunstans in the
East Fellowship< no role > Porter maketh Oath and saith that he has seen
the deced lying about near Billingsgate Quay since Sunday Last-that on Thursday Night last Dept. seeing
the deced lying upon the Houses on Billingsgate Quay and he appearing
very ill and insensible and unable to help himself Dept applied to a
Mr Marmikin one of the Churchwardens of St Mary at Hill where the
deced lay and by his Desire put the deced into a Coach and brought
him to the poultry Compter and delivered him to the Turnkeys of the
Poultry Compter and there left him
