London Depositions of Witnesses taken at London
that is to say at theParishPrecinct of Saint Ann
Blackfriars in the Ward of Farringdon
within in London aforesaid this 1st. day of
September 1797 on view of the body of
William Ball< no role > now here lying Dead

Adolphus Happle< no role > a Pauper in the work house of
Saint Ann Blackfriars London maketh Oath that
between the hours of two & three yesterday afternoon Mr.
Powell Master< no role > of the said Work house Desired Dept.
to go to the Chaise House fronting the Work house
to cut a Boy down that was hanging Dept. went there
& found the deced hanging by a Cord fastened to the
Top of a LadderinDept. having a Knife abot. him
cut the [..] Lord by which the deced was hanging
thatanor pauper belongingthe Baker belonging to the Workhouse went
with Dept. that the deced appeared quite Dead
Dept. layed him on his back & left him there-That
abot. seven oClock same day Dept. assisted to put
the deced into a Shell-That the deced has heard
the deced say he was between eighteen & nineteen years
of age-That the deced has beenin thea Pauper in
the said work house about six years that he had
the Kings Evil in his left Arm which prevented
him doing any Work or Labour-That between two
& three on Wednesday last the Mistress of the Work house
told Dept. the deced was missing & desired Dept. to
go & look after him Dept. accordingly went in search
of the deced and returned about four oClock the
same aftnoon not having learnt any thing of the
deced-Dept. has been in the work house six years
& to Depts. knowledge the place Dept. found the
deced hanging in has never been Locked
