Deposition of a Witness taken at the
Parish of Saint Mary Woolnoth in the
Ward of Langbourn in London aforesaid
this 18th. day of August 1793 on view of
the Body of John Fair now here lying

Cheesemonger maketh Oath that the deced has been a
Servant to him between one & two years That about
the hour of ten in the Morning of Wednesday last Dept
sent the deced with two Chesses in a Box to take to the
Ship William Penn< no role > Captain Josiah bound for America
that the Box was directed for a Mr. Rees that betweenabout
twelve & one same day a young man who appeared to
be a Waterman came to Dept. & informed Dept that
Depts. young Man whom Dept had sent with the Chesse
had fallen over board & was drowned Dept went
with the [..] Waterman to the Ship William Penn lying off
stone stairs Ratcliff that when Dept. got near the
Ship several Boats were near there taking different
lading on board the Ship that upon Dept. inquiring about
the deced he was informed that while the deced was
in the Boat getting the Box ready in order to have it slury & taken
into the Ship [..] the boat heeled on one side and the
deced & the Box fell over board together that the Box
was afterwards taken up but the deced sunk under
the water Dept seeing two Dredgermen going part in a
told them if they foundBoat agreed with them to drey
after the deced That about your oClock the same
afternoon Dept went to Stone Stairs aforesaid and
found the deced in the Boat with the two Men Dept
had before agreed with to look after him Dept
desired the two Men to take the deced to Old Swan Stairs
