Southwark

Depositions of Witnesses taken at the
Parish of Saint George the Martyr within
the Borough of Southwark in the County of
Surrey this 27th: day of June 1796 on view of
the Body of William Goodchild< no role > now here
lying Dead

Charles Siss< no role > [..] re of No. 32 White Street in the parish
of Saint Ge [..] ithin the Borough of Southwark Broom
maker mak [..] Oath that he hath known the deced
William G [..] child ever since Dept. has known himself
that he was also a Broommaker between sixty & seventy
years of age that the deced Dept. and Thomas Barrow< no role >
has worked together in a shop of Mr. William Brandons< no role >
a Broommaker in Kent Street these last Six Weeks.
that Dept. saw the deced about five oClock in afternoon
of Saturday last [..] come down the Yard & go into the
shop were they usually worked Dept. was then employed
in the yard that about twenty Minutes after Dept. went
into the shop that the deced appeared in a sitting posture
against the Wainscot of the Shop Dept. called Brooms
the Name the deced used to go by but Dept. receiving
mans was supposed here as a sleep That a little while after
Dept. stooping down to pick up some stuff to make Broom
with observed the countiance of the deced which appeared
very pale Dept. then thought the deced was hanging by
something Dept. being alarmed ran out of the Shop and called for assistance that
another Man & Dept. went into the Shop that Dept.
found the d [..] then hanging by or Cord fastened round
an Iron twi [..] it which was bored into the Wainscot
of the shop [..] he was quite warm but appeared to
be dead a Doctor came [..] and opened a vein in the
deceds Arm [..] cause any blood came from him he
being quite Dead That the deced has lately been in the
habit to assumbling and talking to himself and appeared
very dull and melancholy Dept. don't think he appeared
in his senses.
