Southwark

An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at the Parish
of Saint John within the Borough of Southwark in the County of Surrey on the eighteenth
day of December in the thirty fifth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George
the third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of
the faith and so forth before Thomas Shelton< no role > Gentleman Coroner of our said Lord the
King for the City of London and Borough of Southwark on view of the body of
Rebecca Cane< no role > now here lying dead by the oath of Daniel Davies< no role > John Hewetson< no role > Thomas
Welldon John Ross< no role > John Davidson< no role > Jonathan Taylor< no role > William Barton< no role > James Judd< no role >
William West< no role > Samuel Watkins< no role > Stacey Cleak David Reddie Richard Jones< no role > David
Jones and John Powell< no role > good and lawful men of the Borough of Southwark aforesaid
in the County aforesaid who being now here duly chosen sworn and charged to
inquire for our said Lord the King when how and in what manner the said Rebecca
Cane came to her death say upon their oath that on the sixteenth day of December in
the year aforesaid a certain person whose name to the Jurors aforesaid is as yet unknown
being driving a certain Cart drawn by two horses along and through a certain publick
street and Kings common highway called Tooley street situate in the Parish of Saint
Olave within the Borough of Southwark aforesaid in the County aforesaid and the said Rebecca
Cane being then and there crossing the said street while the said Cart was so passing on
as aforesaid It so happened that the said Rebecca Cane< no role > did then and there accidentally casually
and by misfortune fall to the ground there and the near wheel of the said Cart did then
and there accidentally casually and by misfortune fall to the ground there and the near wheel
of the said Cart did then and there accidentally casually and by misfortune go upon and
pass over the head of her the said Rebecca Cane< no role > by means whereof she the said Rebecca
Cane did then and there receive one mortal wound and contusion in and upon her said
head of which said Mortal wound and contusion she the said Rebecca Cane< no role > did then and
there instantly die And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their oath aforesaid do say that the said
Rebecca Cane< no role > in manner and by the means aforesaid casually and by misfortune was
accidentally killed In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner as the said Daniel
Davies the foreman of the said Jurors on behalf of himself and the rest of his fellows in
their presence have to this Inquisition set their hands and seals the day year and place
first above written
