An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at London (that is
to say) at the Parish of Saint Botolph without Bishopsgate without in London aforesaid on
the eighth day of December in the thirty fifth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George
the third by the grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the
faith and so forth before Thomas Shelton< no role > Gentleman Coroner of our said Lord the King
for the City of London and Borough of Southwark on view of the body of William Mayo< no role >
now here lying dead by the oath of John Hovatt< no role > Richard Wooten< no role > Matthew Goodenough< no role >
John Curtis< no role > Joseph Francis< no role > John Rayner< no role > John Wingham< no role > John Grafton< no role > George Winn< no role >
John Rider< no role > Timothy Ellsam William Nicholls< no role > William Andrews< no role > Francis Dunbavin< no role >
Thomas Ambrose< no role > and George Harplay good and lawful men of the City of London aforesaid
who being now here duly chosen sworn and charged to inquire for our said Lord the King
when how and in what manner the said William Mayo< no role > came to his death say upon their
oath that the said William Mayo< no role > on the fifth day of December in the year aforesaid at the Parish
and Ward aforesaid in London aforesaid not being of sound mind memory and understanding
but lunatic and distracted with a certain Knife of the value of two pence which he the
said William Mayo< no role > in his right hand then and there had and held the neck and throat of
him the said William Mayo< no role > with the Knife aforesaid did then and there violently cut
giving to himself the said William Mayo< no role > with the Knife aforesaid one mortal wound in
and upon the neck and throat of him the said William Mayo< no role > of which said mortal wound he
the said William Mayo< no role > did then and there die And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their
oath aforesaid do say that the said William Mayo< no role > not being of sound mind memory
and understanding but lunatic and distracted in manner and by the means aforesaid
did Kill himself In Witness whereof as well the said Corner as the said John Hovatt< no role >
the foreman of the said Jurors on behalf of himself and the rest of his fellows in their
presence have to this Inquisition set their hands and seals the day year and place
first above written.
