Depositions of Witnesses taken at London
that is to say, at the parish of Saint Andrew
Holborn in the Ward of Farringdon without
in London aforesaid this 28th. day of August
1794 on view of the Body of Thomas Hapgutt< no role >

Taylor maketh Oath that about Eleven O Clock Yesterday
Morning a Mr. Bridger who lives in the 1st. House on theleftright
hand side Norwich Court Fetter Lane Hairdresser applied
to Dept. and requested him (he being at Constable) to be present
at the breaking open a Door in his HouseDept. went with
himthat a going to Mr. Bridgers House Dept. with Mr.
Bridger & one Pearson went up to a front Room in the three pair
of Stairs of Mr Bridgers Housethat the Door appeared to
be locked and the Key on the insideMr. Bridger and Dept
burst the Door open that on forcing the Door open something
pressed against it on the insideMr. Bridger got in and
opened the Doorthat the deced was hanging by a piece of
ford fastened to a Nail at the Head port of the Bedstead
the greatest part of his Body resting on the Floorhis right
Arm and Head leaning against the Walla Mr. Samwell
a Surgeon who had been sent for came & examined the deced
Mr Samwell< no role > sayed he could be no service for he supposed
the deced had been dead some hoursthe deced was quite
maked at the time of finding him as before statedthat Mr.
Pearson cut the deced down

Hairdresser maketh oath that the deced James Hapgut hath
lodged in a three pair of Stairs front Room of Depts. House about twelve
MonthsDept. understood he was a writing Clerk to some Attorney
that the deced came Home about ten O Clock on Tuesday Evening
last Dept. let him in that he appeared intoxicated that no
person was with him he went up Stairs and Dept. fastened
the Street Doorthat about Eleven O Clock Yesterday Morning
a person came after the decedDepts. Wife went up Stairs
& came down and sayed she could not make the deced hear
& that the Door was fastened inside Dept. then went up and
