An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at the Parish of Saint Thomas
within the Borough of Southwark in the County of Surrey , or the tenth day of August in the thirty Second year of
the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland
King Defender of the faith and so forth before Thomas Shelton< no role > Gentleman Coroner of our said Lord
the King for the City of London and Borough of Southwark on view of the Body of John Nicholson< no role >
now here lying dead by the Oath of Thomas Hooper< no role > , Thomas Parry< no role > , John Overey< no role > , James Gardiner< no role > ,
Thomas Hulme< no role > , Jeremiah Halliday< no role > , John Mitchell< no role > , Thomas Wright< no role > , Samuel Cotham< no role > Job

lawful men of the Parish aforesaid who being now here duly chosen Sworn and Charged to inquire
for our said Lord the King when how and in what manner the said John Nicholson< no role > came to his
death say upon their Oath that the said John Nicholson< no role > on the Sixth day of August in the Year
aforesaid being driving a certain Cart drawn by one Horse along and through a certain public
Street in the Parish of Saint George within the Borough aforesaid in the County aforesaid and
being upon one of the Shafts of the said Cart It so happened that the said Horse Accidentally
casually and by misfortune took fright and an with great force and violence along and
through the said public Street and that the said John Nicholson< no role > in endeavouring to
Jump off from the Shaft of the said Cart in order to stop the said Horse accidentally Casually
and by misfortune fell to the Ground by means whereof the near Wheel of the said Cart did then and there
accidentally casually and by misfortune go upon and pass over the Body of him the said John
Nicholson by reason whereof he the said John Nicholson< no role > did then and there receive divers
mortal bruises in and upon his said Body of which said Mortal Bruises he the said John
Nicholson from the said Sixth day of August in the Year aforesaid until the Seventh
day of the same month of August in the same year as well at the Parish last aforesaid
as also at the said Parish of Saint Thomas within the Borough aforesaid in the County
aforesaid did languish and languishing did live on which said Seventh day of August
in the Year aforesaid at the Parish last aforesaid within the Borough aforesaid in the
County aforesaid the said John Nicholson< no role > of the said mortal bruises did die and so the
Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid do say that the said John Nicholson< no role >
in manner and by the means aforesaid casually and by misfortune was accidentally
killed and that the near Wheel of the said Cart was moving to the death of the said John
Nicholson and< no role > is of the Value of five Shillings and the property and in the possession of
a certain person or persons unknown In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner as the
said Thomas Hooper< no role > the foreman of the said Jurors on behalf of himself and the rest of his
Fellows in their presence have to this Inquisition set their Hands and Seals the Day year
and Place first above Written
