An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at the Parish of Saint Thomas< no role >
within the Borough of Southwark in the County of Surrey on the thirtieth day of July in the thirty second
of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland
King Defender of the faith and so forth before Thomas Shelton< no role > Gentleman an Coroner of our said Lord the
King for the City of London and Borough of Southwark on view of the Body of George Axtell< no role > now
now here lying dead by the Oath of Martin Stoll, Thomas Cooper< no role > , John Johnson< no role > , Thomas Hulme, James
Gardiner, Job Carpenter, Thomas Rosewarne< no role > , Robert Martin< no role > , Thomas Crooks< no role > , John Fairchild< no role > ,
Thomas Hooper< no role > , James Keys< no role > William Cooper< no role > , and Joseph Rooke< no role > , good and lawful Men of the
Parish aforesaid who being now here duly chosen Sworn and charged to inquire for our said Lord
the King when how and in what manner the said George Axtell< no role > came to his death say upon their Oath
that the said George Axtell< no role > on the twenty seventh day of July in the thirty Second year of the Reign aforesaid
being riding on a certain Horse along and through a certain public Read in the Parish of Saint George
within the Borough aforesaid in the County aforesaid It so happened that the said George Axtell< no role >
Accidentally casually and by Misfortune fell from off the said Horse to the Ground there and that
one of the legs of the said George Axtell< no role > was then and there entangled in one of the Straps of the
Stirrup belonging to the Saddle on the said Horse and the said George Axtell< no role > was then and there
hanging by his said Leg with his head to and against the Ground And it so happened that while the
said George Axtell< no role > was so then and there hanging as aforesaid the said Horse accidentally casually
and by Misfortune look fright and ran with great force and violence along and through the
said Public Read and the said George Axtell< no role > was then and there dragged for the space of one
hundred yards and upwards along the said Road by means whereof he the said George Axtell< no role >
did then and there receive divers Mortal Wounds and fractures in and upon his said Head
of which said Mortal Wounds and Fractures he the said George Axtell< no role > did then and there die and
so the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid do say that the said George Axtell< no role > in manner and
by the means aforesaid casually and by Misfortune was accidentally killed and that the
said Horse was moving to the death of the said George Axtell< no role > and is of the price of twenty Shillings
and the Property and in the Possession of a Certain person or person unknown In Witness whereof
as well the said Coroner as the said Martin Stoll the Foreman of the said Jurors on Behalf of
himself and the Rest of his Fellows in their presence have to this Inquisition set their hands
and Seals the Day Year and place first above Written
